With NetSAGE, Stratus VOS administrators no longer have to manage VOS saves and restores separately. NetSAGE allows VOS administrators to automate the save and restore processes. This allows VOS personnel to perform standard operations with no ongoing impact on network backup operations personnel. In turn, network backup operations personnel can manage VOS backups and restores without special knowledge of the operating system. NetSAGE integrates the standard VOS save/restore process into an enterprise backup solution using a Stratus ftServer Linux processor as a nearline storage device, running the client software of the customer's enterprise backup facility (VERITAS or Tivoli). VOS saves are copied as files to the Linux processor where the NetSAGE Network Agent software running on the ftServer Linux processor encapsulates the VOS Save Set in a Linux compliant file structure with a Linux file name that will be understood by the Enterprise Backup server software. Once the VOS save is complete the NetSAGE software schedules an enterprise backup of the encapsulated VOS Save Set using the installed enterprise backup software. Restores are performed in a similar manner.
For a restore, NetSAGE on VOS requests the enterprise backup system to restore the needed data from the RAID or tape silo to the ftServer Linux processor. Then, when that restore is complete, the NetSAGE Network Agent notifies VOS so it can mount the disk and perform the VOS restore to the desired destination. Product Support DRA products purchased through Stratus are supported jointly by DRA and Stratus. DRA products purchased directly from DRA are supported through the Co-active Maintenance Service (CMS). CMS is a total support agreement which is available "around the clock, around the world" to participating DRA customers. Product maintenance, product updates, documentation and training are available through CMS support. CMS is provided free of charge for 90 days following product installation, and may be extended by contract thereafter.
